ARTIST STATEMENT:
Like most artists, I find inspiration by taking in the world around me.
My work is driven by a love of vibrant, saturated color and a commitment to expressive, gestural marks that prioritize feeling over precision. I create paintings and drawings that tell visual stories—narratives rooted in the everyday but transformed through the energy of the brushstroke and the emotional expression of a line.
Using photographic references as a point of departure, I reinterpret images through the lens of memory and feeling, allowing form, color, and gesture to take precedence over strict realism. I’m particularly drawn to the works of the Bay Area Figurative artists, whose ability to bridge abstraction and representation continues to inspire my exploration of the figure and the landscape.
My subject matter is open and varied, often grounded in representation but not constrained by it. Whether capturing a solitary figure, a fleeting moment of light, or a shifting horizon, I strive to create compositions that are both resonant and straightforward—images that convey meaning through color, movement, and atmosphere.
Ultimately, I aim to create work that evokes a visceral response, offering viewers a space to pause, interpret, and connect with something both personal and universal.
